Below are instructions for installing Apture on various blogging platforms, as well as what to do should you encounter problems. Click the link for the blogging platform on which you wish to install Apture.

Blogger

Install Apture on Blogger with One-click

After adding the Apture widget to your blog, you should be redirected to a page titled "Add and Arrange Page Elements". If the Apture widget appears in the left sidebar or above the box labeled "Blog Posts", drag it to the right sidebar or below the "Blog Posts" box, then click the Save button.

Install Manually

  1. Go to Template tab
  2. Go to Edit HTML sub-tab
  3. You should see a big glob of HTML code. Scroll the code down to the bottom.
  4. Insert your Apture code before the </body> tag.
  5. Click Save Template
  6. Done! Visit your blog and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions.

Define the Content Region (Optional)

By default, Apture links can be created anywhere on a page that contains the script tag, including potentially near menus or copyright notices.

If you want to create Apture links only in the 'content region' of your pages, you can mark these regions by pasting the HTML segmants below into the appropriate places in your site's HTML template.

Removing Apture

Follow the steps above, but when you see the big glob of HTML code, remove the Apture code and click Save Template. Apture should now be disabled on your blog.

Troubleshooting Blogger Installation

TypePad

Install Apture on TypePad with One-click

After installing the Apture widget, click "Change Content Ordering" next to your blog's name, then drag the Apture widget either below the content region or in the right sidebar of your blog. (It will not work in a left sidebar.)

Removing Apture

  1. Log in to your TypePad account at www.typepad.com
  2. Under where it says QuickStart, you should see a list of your Weblogs. Click the Weblog from which you wish to remove Apture.
  3. You should see an Overview page with the tabs Manage, Compose, Design and Configure at the top. Click the Design tab.
  4. You should see the options for the Current Design. Click Select Content to add or remove modules from the blog
  5. You should see a list of all the modules installed on your blog. On the bottom-right are a list of ‘Widgets’ including one called Apture. Uncheck the checkbox next to Apture.
  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.
  7. Done. Visit your blog and Apture should no longer be enabled.


Troubleshooting TypePad Installation

WordPress.org

Install Apture by following these instructions:

  1. Download Apture Plugin (apture.php).
  2. Upload the plugin file to the wp-content/plugins folder in your WordPress directory online.
  3. Go to the list of installed plugins by clicking on the Plugins tab on your Wordpress Administration Page. You should see a list of installed plugins.
  4. Click the Activate link on the right side of entry for the Apture plugin.
  5. Done! Visit your blog and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions.
  6. If you ever want to change the settings for the Apture plugin, you can do so by clicking on the Settings tab and then on Apture.

Troubleshooting WordPress Installation

MoveableType

To Install Manually

  1. Login to your MovableType blog
  2. Navigate to the tab Design > Template
  3. You should be on the page ‘Blog Templates’. Click the link Template Modules in the right-hand sidebar.
  4. Click the link to the Footer module.
  5. You should see a big glob of HTML. Insert your Apture code before the closing </body> tag at the end of the HTML.
  6. Click "Save"
  7. Done! Visit your blog and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions.

To Remove Apture

Follow the steps above, but when you reach the ‘Footer’ module HTML, remove the Apture <script> code and click Save. When you revisit your blog, Apture will no longer be enabled.

Ning

To Install Manually

  1. Login to your Ning site
  2. Navigate to the tab Manage
  3. Click the link Track Statistics close to the bottom of the page inside Ning Resources.
  4. You should be on a page titled Tracking Code. Insert the Apture script at the beginning of the textfield below.
  5. Click "Save"
  6. Done! Visit your page and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions.

To Remove Apture

Follow the steps above, but on the Tracking Code page remove the Apture <script> code and click Save. When you revisit your site, Apture will no longer be enabled.

Tumblr

Install on Tumblr

  1. Go to tumblr.com and login to your account.
  2. On the Dashboard page, click the "Customize" link.
  3. Click the "Theme" tab. If you see a list of thumbnail themes, click "Use custom HTML" link underneath them to modify the theme HTML.
  4. You should see a big glob of HTML code. Scroll the code down to the bottom.
  5. Insert the Apture <script> code before the </body> tag.
  6. Click Save Changes
  7. Done! Visit your blog and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions. (Note: if the Apture "Getting Started" guide opens in the blog preview during the steps below, just ignore it.)

To Install Manually

  1. From your blog, click Login to get into your blog administration page.
  2. Click the Manage tab.
  3. Click the "Files" sub-tab. You should see Editing ‘index.html‘ followed by HTML code.
  4. Scroll HTML code to the bottom where it says </body>
  5. Insert your Apture code before the closing </body> tag of the HTML.
  6. Click "update template!"
  7. Done! Visit your blog and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions.

To Remove Apture

Wikispaces

To Install Manually

  1. Login to your Wikispaces space and navigate to the Space on which you want to install Apture
  2. Click the link Manage Space in the left-hand sidebar
  3. Click the link to the Look and Feel under where it says "Space Settings"
  4. Click Change or make a new theme under where it says "Theme"
  5. It says "Make a New Theme" at the bottom of this page. Enter a name for a new theme, and start from your existing theme by selecting it in the list. Click Edit
  6. You should see a big glob of HTML. Insert your Apture code before the closing </body> tag at the end of the HTML
  7. Click Save
  8. Click Use Theme under your newly created Custom Theme. (Note: You will need to upgrade a paying account to do this)
  9. Done! Visit your space and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions

Note: Unfortunately, you need a paying account to add Apture to your Wikispace. Please email help@wikispaces.comif you have any further questions or comments.

Drupal

To Install Manually

  1. Locate and open the page.tpl.php file for the Drupal theme your site uses
  2. You should see a big glob of HTML and PHP. Insert your Apture code immediately before the closing </body> HTML tag near the end of the file
  3. Save the modified page.tpl.php and upload it to your live web server to replace the old file
  4. Done! Visit your site (make sure to reload) and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions


Xanga

Unfortunately, Xanga does not support the ability to either edit blog templates, nor install third party widgets. If you wish to see Apture on Xanga, please feel free to contact them.

LiveJournal

Unfortunately, LiveJournal does not support the ability to edit blog templates nor install third party widgets. If you wish to see Apture on LiveJournal, please contact them.


Squarespace

To Install Manually

  1. Login to your Squarespace blog
  2. Scroll down to the edit website footer button in the left bottom corner of the page and click that button.
  3. A window titled Edit Website Footer should open. Insert the Apture script at the beginning of that textfield.
  4. Click Save & Close"
  5. Done! Visit your page and you should see Apture's ‘Getting Started’ instructions.

To Remove Apture

Follow the steps above, but in the Edit Website Footer window remove the Apture <script> code and click Save & Close. When you revisit your blog, Apture will no longer be enabled.
